Technology Overload

Robots are taking over the world. This phrase sounds a little ridiculous at first thought. However, there may actually be some truth to this statement.

Depending on how you look at the concept, robots are technically taking over the world because technology is constantly evolving. Humans have a way of needing/wanting new things and to keep us with this demand technology has to move just as fast if not faster. Technological improvements can be seen as a good and an evil.

“I think competition between man and machine is good for progress the more we create, the more problems occur which also motivates us to find solutions.” said Tawanda Moore, who is an elementary school teacher.

As stated earlier, technological advancement does have a very negative effect. According to an article done by CNN, 38 percent of American jobs either already have been or is at risk of being replaced by “robots.”

The obvious reason is to save money, the less people you have working the less money the employer has to pay in wages.

The target jobs are the ones that can done by an automated service. Jobs in the fields of manufacturing, finance, and transportation are the jobs that are at risk. Jobs in the field of education and healthcare are very low risk.

“The real problem is your job is only in danger depending on what part of the social ladder you are in. If you are a neurologist with three master degrees you’re good but if you dropped out of high school and work at a packaging facility you’re in trouble,” said Curtis Pointer Jr. who is a truck driver.

One thing that is in speculation that a lot of people need answers to is how will this affect the future. Will a decrease in jobs be short-term only? Will this cause an eventual spike in jobs or will this only increase the poverty level?

Obviously there is no way to give anybody a concrete answer so the best bet is to prepare for the worst. Something has to be put in place to give society some balance. “The only time when change ever happens is when people put pressure on the government. They are the only ones who decide what’s important enough to change. Once we show them how negatively a job decrease will affect us something will go our way”. This is coming from David Felton, a psychologist and musician.

There should be some type of financial aid assistance program for anybody in the danger zone of losing their job. This would only be a temporary solution. However this will provide some cushion for people instead of being left to dry.
