The Foster Care System

There are over four hundred and twenty-thousand children in foster homes in the United States.

Many of the kids are either forlorn for being in the system or they are excited to be getting out of the system. The system is a place where many kids don’t want to be.

“I hate the foster care system. It’s so bogus, because it tries to make it seem like you a part of something that’s regular, but you are really not,” states Arielle Williams.

Many of the children that are in the system feel left out. They feel that they are missing out on a “regular” childhood.

According to childrensrights.org, “In 2015, more than twenty thousand young people aged out of foster care without permanent families.”

Many children don’t get fostered. Usually teenagers are the children who don’t get selected. The parents usually choose infants to toddlers.

“Teens go through a lot. We go through many changes and when people are looking into fostering a person they are looking at someone they can raise. Many of them don’t want a teen,” stated Sahmya Lake.

Many foster children have a horrible upbringing. They are treated wrong and many of them feel neglected.

According to covenanthouse.org, “Kids who age out of foster care are more likely to not have completed high school or received a GED, they often suffer from mental health problems, many are unemployed and live in poverty, and nearly forty percent are homeless.”

Parents who are fostering a child receive monthly reimbursements. Many people believe that parents receive payment and that is not true.

Reimbursements are for the parents that need help in the financial departement to take care of the child. As the child gets older the reimbursements become higher.

“Everyone wants someone to love and care for them and that’s what I think the children really want,” stated Makaia Jackson.

Many children wait three years or longer to be fostered. The average of kids in foster care is nine years old. Additionally, many children in foster care do not receive the best treatment.

According to fostercoalition.com, “Foster children are more likely to become victims of sex trafficking. Given their need for love, protection and their often impaired development of social boundaries, foster care children make easier targets for sex traffickers.”

There are many things that can happen to a child that no one notices. The world has not shed a light on the foster care system, because they believe that the children are safe and comfortable.

“As being a foster child I feel misplaced, lonely, and sad. Kids need to find a home so that they can have a bright future,” states Williams.
