Some say sexual assault is a form of power, so one can feel some sort of power they don’t feel with others. Some say rape is for sexual reasons, this is the only way it can be received. Some, but very little say it’s the victims fault.
Others say its the rapist’s fault. Who’s fault do you think it is?
“I think it’s the victims fault. Say you’re half-dressed. Basically wearing short shorts and a top that’s wayy too tight.
Just showing off your figure, right? You go to a party-- you know it’s going to be a bunch of guys, drinking, and you’re attracting them. You’re giving off some type of sexual tension that can be unavoidable. And if you’re throwing hints like you want it then later change your mind, it’s going to upset them and drive them to doing something that probably could’ve been avoided if you just showed up fully dressed and stayed with your guard up,” said Mariah Wilson.
“Not saying that rape is essentially right, but it’s something that could’ve been avoided,”
“No absolutely not it is not the victim’s fault. Whoever says it is, is in fact sick. There is NO excuse for this kind of behavior,” said Amarie Wade.
Do you think people that are raped deserve redemption?
“People who do this are sick, and should be ashamed of themselves.” said Breanna Owensby.
“I was with my friend, and my friend convinced me to go out with a couple of guys. Since I trusted my friend, I didn’t think nothing of it, in my mind I was going to be with my friend the whole time. So we went out and did things normal teens would do, and later unwanted things took place with a person she swore was harmless,” said Diane Williams.
“I ended up being pregnant by this person. Most of my family neglected me, my mom didn’t want to claim me, and I was a single mom at a very young age. My aunt took me in and helped me raise my baby. So, I was pregnant with a baby that was forced and felt completely alone. This caused a lot of problems for me, but eventually I looked at my baby as a blessing ,it’s the best thing that ever happened to me, even though it was under harsh measures. ” said Diane Williams.
“Whoever says rape is preventable is very much ignorant,”
After reading her very emotional testimony, what is your opinion on rape now? Can it be prevented? Or is it inevitable.
According to rainn.org perpetrators of sexual violence are less likely to go to jail or prison than other criminals.
