Would you kill another human being to protect yourself? Most of society believes that this is the way to go, but others may disagree. Murdering someone while acting in self defense is a controversial topic.
Self defense is a human mechanism that protects you from getting hurt. Which consists of doing anything possible to save your life even if it constitutes a crime.
It is believed by some that acting in self defense that may cause you to kill your predator is not a bad thing.
“A murder is never acceptable, but best in some cases. Say if someone kidnapped you and you were being held, then that would be acceptable for you to take any action necessary” said Josiah Marshall, Sophomore student.
Although murder should not be done and may be against some people’s values, in the any event that you have to protect yourself it is okay.
“If acting in self-defense, NO; murder is NOT bad! Considering the fact that in this type of situation, one’s like is at stake; it’s now a matter of your life or theirs. Therefore, if murder is necessary to save one’s own life; then so be it. While I do not agree with the taking of any life, some situations warrant it and in this instance, it is rightfully so” said Dr. Perry, CMHS Health teacher.
Contrary, some people believe that killing someone is not the greatest thing even if you are acting in self defense. Their conscience still tells them that this is a wrongful action.
“If it truly was self defense then murder is not really that bad, but it’s still wrong. If I killed someone I would be scared and sad because committing murder isn’t right, but then I would be relieved because I am protecting myself” said Alyssa O’berry, Sophomore student.
All sources agreed in saying that killing someone acting in self defense is something that they would do. Although O’berry agreed with Marshall and Dr. Perry her viewpoint was slightly different.
Sources were then asked how they would feel personally if they murdered someone. Some of their responses varied, but were merely the same.
“If I murdered someone because I was defending myself, I would feel vindicated. Although I am not a believer in the act of murder, I do believe that I have a right to defend myself and in a situation where my life was at risk; if murder was my only opt-out, then I would do it with no qualms” said Dr. Perry.
Dr. Perry and Marshall both agreed on the fact that this murder would significantly be okay with them. They would not feel bad for protecting themselves, but in other words if there was another way out or different circumstances they would not think about killing someone.
As a society, murder is known to be a horrible crime, but if it is self defense it is okay or tolerated.
