Divorce

Divorce is a huge problem in America, it rips families apart. While, most kids get to visit the parent they aren’t mainly living with, some kids do not. About 40 to 50 percent of married couples in the United States divorce.

Children are 50 percent more likely to develop health problems, than two parent families. Having both parents makes the children 20 to 35 perfect physically healthier than kids with only one parent.

Children and teens coming from broken families, have more psychological problems and are twice as likely to attempt suicide. They often have lower grades and are less pleasant to be around.

“Even though my parents are divorced, they both still play a big role in my life,” Speaks JaVon Johnson. “It’s better having both parents, because I have a male role model around. Some kids don’t have that.”

Johnson continues, “I mainly live with my mom, but I still visit my dad when I have the chance.” His parents were married since 1997, and had gotten divorced in 2008.

Cody Scheidt says that both of his parents are active in his life, but he mainly lives with his mom. “There’s a little effect on our relationship. I feel like my dad doesn’t show as much as he should, and it grows into a feeling of an relationship.”

He stated that it is probably annoying for his sister because she is a very hardworking person, who works everyday. It could be annoying to drive to her dad’s for an hour and then have to go home.

His parents have been split for 10 years, after being married for 13. Cody says that he doesn’t find it difficult to live with only one parent.

41 percent of first marriages end in divorce, while 73 percent of third marriages end in divorce. In America, there is a divorce about every 36 seconds, that’s almost 2,400 divorces per day.

The divorce rate of couples with children is 40 percent lower than for couples with no kids. 75 percent of children with divorced parents live with their mother.

Divorce is a huge problem in America, for not only the couple involved but for the children they have together. Experiencing your parents getting a divorce, can raise your chance to have mental issues.

Both parents need to work together to create an environment for their children that is both healthy and safe. In the terms of a divorce, the child and their needs should come first.
