Police brutality has been a very cruel issue in the United States. Police brutality is a subject that is not taken lightly.
According to washington post.com, black men account for forty percent of the sixty unarmed people who have been shot by the police.
“Well the government knows what’s going on and they don’t stop it. They need to stop hiring prejudice police officers who mostly fault African American men,” said Jamaya Seymore.
Many people believe that the officers target African American men. Many African Americans are now afraid of walking out the house or driving, because they believe that they are a target.
This society has become full of hatred and fear. The young men and women don’t know how to respond to so much violence. Unfortunately, they react by using what they fear.
“This affects the youth, because if I see a police officer I’m going to be nervous. I’m going to be scared because the police officer can easily shoot me,” said Isys Fisher.
Many people are afraid of police officers, but the majority are great policemen. There is a minority that has been violent and overbearing.
The millennials have been very active, but violent. They have protested and they have also created the movement Black Lives Matter, but many millennials turn their anger into violence.
“This generation is just bad in general, so police brutality is just adding onto it. This is creating a bad world for our future children to live in. We have to teach them when you are walking down the street and you see a policeman you need to walk slow and keep looking forward. This is teaching them how to be fearful of the world,” said Fisher.
Many other people have different opinions about the millennial.
“We are creating a good environment for the youth. But I think we do have to start talking about things that are going on and the problems in the world,” said Sahmiyah Hamilton.
According to mic.com, ninety-eight percent of the shootings and murders did not end with a police officer being charged with a crime. Many of the murders have been walked over and not been payed attention to.
Many officers get away with the crime. Because of the shootings many people have begun to retaliate against the officers. Majority believe that the police are not innocent.
“Police brutality is based on racial profiling and many people don’t understand that. They just “accidentally” killed someone who is unarmed,” said Trinity Griggs.
Over one thousand people have been killed by police officers while being unarmed. There has got to be an end to this violence.
“I can’t say I’m for or against any side. Every situation is different. Every person is different. Police officers have to go through a lot,” said Joanna Galvan.
The policemen that are killing innocent people are making a bad name for police officers. There has to be some way the violence can stop. Police officers are there to protect citizens. They are not there to hurt citizens.
“There should be a movement such as Black Lives Matter, because black lives do matter. We have to stand up for what is right and the injustices. There have been too many murders,” said Hamilton.
We as a society have to unite and make this violence come to an end. Instead of spreading hate spread the act of love.
