Who really wants to work a 9am to 5pm everyday for the rest of their lives? My dream of fishing in every country is not possible due to my responsibilities.

So what is my next step? Do I drop out of school, abandon my family, and throw away everything I worked for to live out my dreams? Is it really smart to quit your day job to pursue your dreams?

To the naked eye this question seems like a no brainer, but the underlying effects of this decision should be considered. One of the main things that should be considered is that if your dream is profitable.

“I believe it is smart to give up your job, but only based on how hard you will work. If you follow your dreams money will find you because you are doing what are you meant to do.” says August Gregory, graduate of Hampton University.

In order to really consider these options you have to have your priorities in order. Nothing is wrong with following your dreams, but timing is everything. Having a family is a major thing to take into account a because you have to provide for them.

Can your dream take care of your family? Even if it’s profitable, how do you know you will make enough to replace your income from your day job if that was even enough?

No one ever said to not chase your dreams, but if it’s not done at the right time and executed perfectly then it definitely can put you in straining situation.

“I believe you should keep your day job if your schedule allows for it because it will provide a steady paycheck when you need it “ says Lashunda Felton, secretary for Stateville correctional facility.

You have to be honest with yourself before you make your choice. Hardwork and dedication are two things that need to be mandatory. Are you willing to commit full time to get the outcome you are looking for?

Dreams are something you should plan on doing the rest of your life because that is what will bring you happiness. You should have a fire within yourself to work hard at achieving your dreams.

“I would quit my day job because my dream is to travel overseas , but I would not quit until I know I can fund my dreams” says Anthony Cook, senior at Hillcrest High School.

Another perspective of this can be to maintain both your job and dreams. It depends on what your dreams are. If your dream is to have your own business you can hire employees and still have some sort of side job.

Things don’t always work out exactly how we want them to in life. It’s a horrible feeling to be in a financial situation and not have any money to fallback on.

If this were to happen and you fall short of your dreams, how do you recover? Getting a job will be the first thought, either you already have one or you have to once again compete for one. It’s all up to the discretion of the dreamer.
