Many people have different opinions on the curfew dilemma that teens have start facing at the age of thirteen.
According to safetycops.com, “In the state of Illinois anyone under the age of seventeen are not allowed to be out 11:00 pm-6:00 am on weekdays and 12:00 am-6:00 am on weekends”.
The times might be different depending on the town and not to mention parents have their decision on curfews for their children. According to safety cops.com,“The fine if you get caught out passed curfew is 500 dollars.”
There are a whole list of reasons why curfews were set in place such as violence, and underage drinking.
“ Nothing good ever happens after midnight.” says Regina Krauklis mother of two
Most parents set curfews for their teenagers because of the type of world we live in where teens go out and drink at their friend's house or go out and obtain drugs. Are curfews set in place is to keep their kids safe and what age do curfews cease to make an impact?
“ I feel 13 is a good age to start talking about curfews and 18 is a good age for them to cease.” says Elaine Krauklis mother of three.
They start going out to with friends and some parents feel they might be doing or getting into something they should not. Drugs and alcohol are no strangers to teens, they go out to have a fun time and might end up in some trouble they never expected to be in.
“ Women are more victimized because they are women it’s not always safe for them.” says Regina Krauklis mother of two.
If girls go out by themselves late at night there might be a possibility something might happen. Ever hear the question why do girls travel in packs? It's because women can’t really go anywhere by themselves without that nagging fear that someone might hurt them. Parents are more afraid and protective towards their daughters for those reasons. Some teens think their parents are way too strict when in reality they just want their kids in the house at a good time so they know their kids are safe.
“ I can’t go anywhere without my mom constantly texting me.” says Breana Menendez.
Parents are protective for many reasons and always want to know where their teens are at, what their doing, or who their with, just call it parents intuition.
