Cooking classes at Crete-Monee sounds like a great idea but should we really have them? Well three sources give their opinions on this topic down below. “If there is enough student interest and available resources, I think it would be a great opportunity.” Says Crete-Monee High School Librarian Amy Bertoletti According to Crete-Monee High School’s Stats teacher Barbara Belin she thinks it would be great if we had cooking classes here at Crete-Monee. It is important for kids to learn some of the basics on food handling and cooking before working in the food industry or just for everyday life. My son is in a culinary arts class and found it a lot harder than he thought it was going to be. My sister graduated from Crete in 1975 and she remembers cooking and home economics classes. ”Yes, I believe Crete-Monee should have a cooking class. I think it would provide many educational benefits.” Says Crete Monee high school staff member Vicki McKenna They also state whether it would be beneficial for students who don’t know how to cook and here’s what they had to say. “I think it would appeal more to students who are interested in pursuing the culinary arts as a career. It focuses on the history and evolution of food culture, safety in kitchen, food prep, organization and cleanliness; not just learning how to cook or follow a recipe.” Says Crete- Monee high school Librarian Amy Bertoletti According to Crete-Monee High School staff member Vicki McKenna, it would be beneficial for students who do not know how to cook. “It would provide the student with a sense of accomplishment, in knowing how to create a meal. It would also be a great way to learn about healthy ways of eating and preparing food. Everyone enjoys eating and having a great meal prepared for them. This skill could lead into a career. They also talk about what will need to happen for Crete-Monee to have a cooking class. “I think the biggest challenge would be providing resources and the space for these resources, like providing enough kitchen stations and other appliances for a whole class.” Says Crete- Monee high school Librarian Amy Bertoletti McKenna thinks students would need to express their desire to have a cooking class to their guidance counselors and administration. Last but not least they give their thoughts on if Crete-Monee will ever have a cooking class.
“It might be a possibly, but not in the foreseeable future.” Says Crete-Monee high school’s Librarian Amy Bertoletti According to Crete-Monee High School’s staff member Vicki McKenna she thinks Crete-Monee may one day have a cooking class if the desire to have one is expressed by many and finances are available.
