Are you unsatisfied with your school lunch choices? Today most kids are sick of the greasy pizza and stale chips offered in schools. It’s time for a change.

“The school lunches we eat now don’t seem healthy at all. It’s greasy and nasty pizza most the time,” stated freshmen Jason Strowhorn

Brookings.edu stated that one out of every three children overweight or obese and 31 million children participating in the National School Lunch Program, these improvements are a key strategy for supporting children’s health.

“They should put time into thinking of good stuff we can eat,” said freshmen Jason.

Many kids eat at least half of their meals at school, and for many, food served at school may be the only food they regularly eat.

“Yeah obviously it will taste better and people will like it,” said Jason when asked if it would be a hit.

With most kids eating these lunches and obesity at its highest there may be a connection. Some students are bringing in lunches but most are not. Some kids don’t even eat lunch because of the type of food provided.

“There should be more options of like fruits. We’ll maybe get an apple that is half rotten every once in awhile,” said Jason Strowhorn.

Some say the quality of school lunches can even affect students academic performance. There was a study and they found when a school contracts with a healthy lunch company, students at the school score better on end-of-year academic tests.

“No, nobody wants that nasty pizza everyday! The food is not good and the meat is out of a bag,” stated Aniyah McDowell, a 7th grader at the middle school.

Is it true? Some studies show that there is definitely a connection between academic scores and school lunches. It’s definitely time for a change.
