Trends of 2017

Trends- a general direction in which something is developing or changing. Have you ever found yourself following trends? “Sometimes I follow trends, if I see an outfit then I might get something close to it, but I don’t completely follow it,” said Zaria Hayes. Most of the time, trends can involve fashion. Usually things get trending on Instagram/Twitter or any other social media platform. Celebrities or teens that kids aspire to be are usually the people who would generally trend things. But most people don’t follow trends. “No, I don’t follow trends, I do what I want,” said Hayes. “I wear what I want,” said Sean Moore. “I don’t really follow trends; it’s a bunch of people following each other.” “I feel like the wave trend isn’t good; waves aren’t for everybody. Some people look ugly with waves,” said Hayes. This is another example of a trend which is called the ‘waves trend.’ It’s basically where boys cut down their hair and use some type of technique with their brush to actually get a wavy kind of look in their hair. “It’s ugly; people come up with anything,” said Hayes. A lot of people say that trends are moreso people are trying to be like someone else. Some feel like they should be themselves and stop checking on social media for trends, and maybe create their own style. But there are some people who do express their own style in different ways. “I feel like that’s good because I feel like you’re being yourself and you’re not being like everybody else,” said Hayes. “I feel like if you like the trend, I guess that’s fine, but don’t do it because everyone else is doing it,” said Moore. But trends aren’t only based on appearance. Some people create positive trends like recycling, getting good grades, etc. “A trend I would start is for you to be yourself,” said Hayes. Trends usually last a while. Another trend that got started is a dancing trend called “Hit dem folks.” A lot of people were following this trend, and it’s still trending to this day. “I’m not really a dancer but I really like this trend. It’s really fun to do with my friends and funny at times,” said Layla Groove. Trends also can involve makeup, too. There’s a makeup trend going around and it’s the “wavy eyebrow” trend. “It is not cute at all, people should just stick to their regular eyebrows. This is another example of someone copying someone else just because everyone is doing it,” said Groove. “I don’t know why y’all females wear makeup anyway. I mean it’s okay. But wavy eyebrows? Too much,” said Moore.
