On July 26th, 2017 Trump made a series of tweets stating that the U.S would not allow transgender people to serve in any branch of the U.S military. Many people in the United States were left outraged by this dehumanizing event. The Ban affects the lives of over 15,000 transgender veterans that were in the military. There has also been an estimated of about 134,000 veterans before the Military ban took place in the US. According to transequality.org. Although many Americans can clearly see this as being a dehumanizing event Donald Trump still thinks that this action is going to help the military. “Victory and cannot be burdened with tremendous medical cost that transgender in the military would entail,” Donald Trump tweets. “Trans people are being dehumanized because any human can be in the military once they’re 18.” Kyle Meers, a student at Crete Monee High school indicates. Trump believed that he was doing the troops a favor by clearing up this “confusing event”. As you can tell this lead to a lot of controversy regarding the Trump Administration due to many Americans seeing this event as a Civil Rights issue. “It’s their body we do not have the right to tell them to change who they are,” states Marion Walker, a senior at Crete Monee High School. As a result of the Transgender Military Ban protest have emerged nationwide. Many nationwide demonstrators gathered in the Washington, New York, and San Francisco areas in protest of Donald Trump's Transgender military ban, according to abcnews.go.com. “Peaceful protest can definitely help, just no violence we have had enough of that,” Declares Daniella Werner a junior at Crete Monee High School. The protesters urge us as Americans to help fight and protect the rights of Transgender Veterans being allowed to go back into the military. This is a fight that can be fought by not only people from the LGBT or trans community this situation can be fought by supporters of transgender rights. Supporting also goes along with many ways of supporting this national issue such as online petitions. These petitions can be signed in order to lift the ban of Transgender men and women in the military. Many Americans are even voicing their opinions about the situation via social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and these are just some of the social media platforms being used by many supporters who would like to make their voices heard. Eventually the idea of these protest and online petitions is to be able to have people finally see how they can help fight this civil situation and lift the ban. “If you are able to make your voice loud enough eventually people will start listening,” Kyle Meers also states.
