Some students feel as if the dress code is not reasonable at all and some feel that it is somewhat reasonable. “I do not think that our school dress code is reasonable. I think people should and could wear whatever they would like. Their parents should be the only ones deciding if their child should not wear a certain type of clothing,” said Dominique Tucker, CMHS sophomore student. Many students have their own style and a way that they would like to dress. Our school sometimes keeps this freedom of expression away by the dress code policy. Although you will find some students who do not have many complaints about it. “The school’s policy is somewhat reasonable, some stuff that I wear on an everyday basis I can not wear to school. I would change the dress code so that students would be able to wear pajamas and tank tops. The dress code is highly annoying,” said Alyssa O’berry, CMHS sophomore student. Students have agreed that the policy is somewhat reasonable, but that there are some things that they would change about the policy, like being more relaxed. “The dress code policy in our school effects a lot of other people's fashion choices. I have friends that are also affected by this policy,” said Alexis O’Reilly, CHMS senior student. Furthermore, Tucker and O’Reilly went on to say that despite the fact that they do not think the policy is reasonable it does not really affect them. “ I feel that the attire we wear are just clothes, and if parents allow their child to wear inappropriate clothing that is on them. That is their child and they should take full responsibility for their child's actions The reason we have dress code is because students show off too much skin. This could draw attention to boys in our school, which could cause a distraction,” said Dominique Tucker, CMHS sophomore student. Another student had a little bit more to say about this topic. Her thoughts and answers were very passionate. “I do not agree with everything considering the fact that not everyone in school gets dress coded for their attire. Not all females get into trouble for what they are wearing, I believe it is because of their body size. I really think that this type of discrimination is unfair and it should not be happening. If I could change CMHS dress code I would make it where everything is equal. Where it will not matter what size you are and how you look. I believe that being able to wear what we want allows students to express themselves in ways words cannot describe,” said Candace Smith, CMHS sophomore student. As a school, we should be together as one. The dress code policy should be something that is fair and reasonable for everyone. Something for our inner selves to come out. A policy that helps with a
person’s self expression, but is also acceptable for our school.
