Teachers in Chicago protest for one day to stabilize their finances of one of the third biggest schools in the district. According to money.com, the area a teacher works a determines how much money they will receive from the school district. An example is $42,025 is the average in South Dakota compared to New York's salary which is at a high of $77,957. “I believe teachers deserve a raise. They are hard working and put in a lot of effort for kids to receive the proper education”. Said Jaheim Andrews. Well Andrews is not the only one who thinks that, because the cite Odyssey.com states that 49 percent of the 60 individuals surveyed supported that teachers should have their salaries raised. Therefore American citizens should invest in giving teachers a bigger salary. Teachers have been on strike since 2012 and they are still on strike today. The strike of september in 2012 was the first time a teacher walked out in 25 years according to CNN news. “No one would every turn down money….of course teachers thought about a higher salary”. Said. Warren julian

Last Month,90% of Chicago teachers voted to approve a strike. Teachers love their jobs, but they are desperate for money. “I believe that teachers shouldn't go on strike, because kids still need their education. Children have to wait because there teacher is not there”. said Laniyah Duw. ERSA states that when a teacher is not present then the students grades and performance will drop. This will affect the student's achievement. According Washington Post, Chicago's third largest school system was shut down because of teachers taking off work to get more money. While students were in class, teachers would be striking. Meaning 340,000 kids will be missing out on their education. Multiple states desire a better income for teachers. The ten states that are include Alabama, california , Delaware ,Florida, Hawaii, Idaho ,Illinois , Indiana, Kansas ,and Louisiana . Education post states, “Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) representative who conceded that teachers don’t really “want” to strike but nevertheless feel it’s the only way to express frustration with budget cuts and working conditions that make their job more challenging. Teachers should receive a raise but should go about it a different way so students still receive a quality education.
