In my source Education Next.com they stated that students should start school at 9:00am. A number of school districts have responded by delaying the start of their school day, and a 2005 congressional resolution introduced by Rep. A 1996 survey of research studies found substantial evidence that less sleep is associated with a decrease in cognitive performance, To further investigate how the effect of later start times varies with age, I estimate the effect of start times on upper elementary students (grades 3–5). the start-time effect is roughly the same for students age 11 and 12, but increases for those age 13 and is largest for students age 14. “It’s horrible at what I time I wake up because I don't have enough time to get dressed in the morning”. Lauren Julian says. I agree with what Julian says. Schools have us waking up at 5 in the morning. If we have test etc. We wouldn't have time to get a good breakfast, because we have to be at school so early. Only if school time changed then Lauren would do good on her test. Most teens miss the most important meal of the day due to school times. “If I were to pick a time for youth kids to wake up it would be 10:00am” said Julian”. Her reasoning was there could be parents with more than one kid and might need extra time. According to cbs news.com. Advocates argue that an 8:30 am start time improves students’ chances of success. When teens wake up to early they tend to slack and get drowsy in class. “We need more time in the morning”. Said Julian
Mercy news states that if the push back the time then it will help teens catch up on the missing sleep they lost. Time.com said that “Middle and high school should start no earlier than 8:30 a.m., says the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) in a position statement. Doctors say that starting school earlier in the morning prevents children and teenagers from getting a full night’s sleep, which can affect their health, safety and academic performance.” Most schools start before 8 AM. Students that sleep in school can have several consequences. There test scores will fall down then when they get depressed that leads to obesity. Time change will be better and give teens a better opportunity to get on a better track.
