In today’s world, many of the beauty standards can seem unattainable. Some people become overwhelmed or feel as they are an outcast if they do not meet these standards. “How can someone be a definition of beautiful if everyone is different,” said Sophomore Natalie Loney. The definition of beauty has been shaped by society’s standards instead of what people actually look like. “My definition of beauty is to be you,” Sophomore Natalie Loney responded when asked what she believes the definition of beauty is. Every era has its own view on beauty but today’s views seem to be the most impactful. There’s so much more pressure put on people and their appearance. “If you agree or believe in beauty standards then you’re shallow and not open minded,” said Sophomore Brandon Stroyier. There is no real definition of beauty. People in today’s era shape and mold what they think the definition of beauty is. People don’t seem to be as accepting or kind when it comes to being different. “If you don’t fit the image in their minds then you aren’t good enough,” said Sophomore Denaisha Penman. In today’s society people feel as they have to change their appearance or perfect themselves to fit in. Even when you try to please society and submit to these standards people are still not satisfied. “I don’t really agree with the definition of beauty in today’s world because I feel you shouldn’t have to look a certain way to be considered beautiful,” said Sophomore Denaisha Penmen. Today most of these standards or things defined as beautiful don’t actually exist. Photoshop is widely used as a way to ‘perfect’ and enhance features on a person. It makes you want to achieve a look that is not realistic or possible. “At the end of the day it’s just a picture and you’re still you when you go to sleep and wake up,” said Sophomore Natalie Loney when asked what her opinion on Photoshop was. Beauty is what you define it as and shape it as.
